Buffy takes Dawn to her first day at the newly-restored Sunnydale High, only to discover it still holds the deep dark secrets of the past, and a remorseful Willow turns to Giles and the coven to learn to control her magic. 

Buffy tracks a subterranean monster following her first day as a guidance counsellor at Sunnydale High School, and Willow says goodbye to Giles and departs from England. 

Buffy, Xander and Dawn are unable to find Willow, who has inadvertently made herself invisible to her friends, and vice versa. Willow's return to Sunnydale is marred further by a demon, Gnarl, who relishes the skin of his victims. 

Novice counsellor Buffy begins trying to help the students at Sunnydale High, including Cassie Newton, a girl who predicts her own death. Unfortunately, a Slayer is no match for fate. 

After Anya grants a particularly gruesome wish, Buffy feels that she must kill Anya. Xander tries to stop her, but the problem is solved when Anya requests to take it back and leave the vengeance demon fold. 

Dawn's simple crush on Sunnydale High's star quarterback RJ starts to become obsessive, leading Buffy to investigate the boy herself. When Buffy, along with all the other women who see RJ, also fall in love with him, Spike and Xander must team up to discover the source of this attraction, but first they have to keep the women from doing anything crazy in their competition for RJ's affection. 

The gang receives a wave of ominous visitations; Joyce visits daughter Dawn from beyond the grave; Buffy has a startling conversation with a vampire; Willow thinks Tara is trying to communicate with her. 

The gang believes Spike is responsible for a rash of brutal attacks, Giles makes a cataclysmic discovery, and Aimee Mann performs at the Bronze. 

Buffy interrogates Spike about his misdeeds, the gang grills Andrew for the truth about looming evil forces, and Buffy urgently contacts the Watchers Council in an effort to find Giles. 

Buffy and the gang search for a way to annihilate the Ubervamp, Giles arrives in Sunnydale with three would-be slayers in tow, and The First continues to torture Spike, who flags and almost perishes. 

Buffy trains would-be slayers while searching for ways to vanquish the Uber-vampire and save Spike. Meanwhile, Anya and Giles meet with an oracle who has disturbing information about Buffy's past and future. 

Buffy takes the Potentials to a demon bar, and then to Spike's crypt, in order to teach them the art of slaying. When Willow casts a spell to seek out the next Potential, the spell leads them to believe that Dawn may be a future slayer. 

After Willow and Kennedy share their first kiss, Willow is transformed into Warren, the man she killed last year. When she sets out to find help, she bumps into an old friend. Meanwhile, Buffy searches for answers when Spike's chip causes him great pain, and the gang suspect that Giles may really be The First. 

Buffy accepts an invitation to dinner from Principal Wood, and the secrets of his past are revealed. Xander impresses a beautiful girl with his knowledge of knots, as she seems to be interested in tying him up. Meanwhile, The First contacts Andrew in another attempt to destroy the Potentials, and Giles finds himself tongue-tied with the new Potential, Chao-Ahn. 

The Scoobies use a spell to transport Buffy into a shadow world, where she meets the men who created the first slayer. However, in order for her to return home, the gang must find and slay a ferocious demon. 

Andrew uses a video camera to document a day in the life of Buffy and her friends, and the Sunnydale students turn into fire-breathing demons. 

Robin Wood seeks revenge on Spike for killing his mother nearly 30 years ago, whilst everyone else tries to find out how The First has control over him. 

Faith returns to Sunnydale just in time to meet the First's evil agent, Caleb. Buffy leads the troops into a battle with Caleb, which ends with two dead Potentials and a seriously wounded Xander. 

After their horrifying loss at the vineyard, the gang turn against Buffy and begin to follow Faith instead. Meanwhile, Spike and Andrew travel to an old church to question a priest about Caleb. 

Faith and the potentials discover an element of the First's plan and launch a pre-emptive strike; Buffy brawls with Caleb (Nathan Fillion). 

Wielding a mystical new weapon, Buffy rejoins the fray on the eve of the final confrontation; Angel (David Boreanaz) fights at Buffy's side against a revitalized Caleb (Nathan Fillion). 

Buffy comes up with a plan: The gang makes an attack on the First's army, aided by Willow, who performs a powerful spell to imbue all of the Potentials with Slayer powers. Meanwhile, wearing the amulet that Angel brought, Spike becomes the decisive factor in the victory, and Sunnydale is eradicated. Buffy and the gang look back on what's left of Sunnydale, deciding what to do next.
